From July 2017 onwards I'm staying overseas in Melbourne, Australia. The first part of my itinerary entails an exchange semester at RMIT university in Melbourne. Secondly, I will start journeying through Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and China. This website tells more on my insights, experiences, and many more during my travels.

First weeks in Melbourne

What to do first when your feet touch Australian soil? Fill in the incoming passenger card. Every passenger that arrives in Australia is required to provide enough information by filling in the incoming passenger card. This comes with no surprise, Aussie’s have one of the toughest immigration policies. With some luck, honesty, and understanding you’ll pass customs within the hour or even less.

The free walking tour in Melbourne gives you the perfect opportunity to explore Melbourne’s sights. During the three-hour walk, you will delve into history and secrets of the world’s most liveable city. However, the tour is not entirely free. They expect you to tip the guide depending on your own valuation of the tour. In this photo, you can see the Parliament of Victoria. Funny fact: it is located opposite the former red-light district of Melbourne.

Melbourne's architecture
Melbourne consists of a lot of new urban constructions, however you still can see older monumental architecture. The picture on your right displays in the back St. Paul's Cathedral, a colossal piece of art. Head off to Federation Square to obtain the most beautiful view.

Food of Asia
Don’t be surprised during your first walk in Melbourne Central Business District (CBD) to see many of Asian supermarkets. These stores offer a wide variety of ingredients for Asian cuisine. Especially on Elizabeth St and Swanston St a lot of Asian restaurants ranging from Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, and Korean all the way up to even Singaporean. There are many choices for everyone.

Queen Victoria Market
A man shouting for fruit and veggies at the well-known Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne. If you looking for cheap, tasty, and healthy food give Queen Vic a chance to convince you. All types of fruit, vegetables, chicken, beef, and many more are available but you can also find Alaska King Crab in the showcase (see pic below). If you’re in Melbourne cbd visit at least the Queen Victoria Markets. No time during the day? It even has a winter night market on Wednesday.

South Bank
South bank is an area located to the south of the CBD. Eureka Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Australia, finds itself in this inner neighbourhood of Melbourne. The tower offers from the Skydeck an amazing view of Melbourne’s skyline.

The beginning: check-in at Schiphol

Checking in for the British Airways 423 flight from Schiphol, Amsterdam to London. Gathering information about the next flights with Malaysia Airlines (MH0003) to Kuala Lumpur and from there to Melbourne (MH0129). Itinerary started on the 6th of July, 2017 and lasted till Melbourne July 7th, 2017 at approximately 19:15 p.m. Total travel time was about 32 hours. Journeyed towards Melbourne, Australia for my study abroad at RMIT university. At my left my mom, Agnes Kruiper. Cheers!
